Difference Between Epoxy and Polyurethane Resin Flooring

24 December 2025
Industrial resin floors can be installed from a number of resin-based components, but the most common types are epoxy, polyurethane (PU) or methyl methacrylate (MMA) resins. Even in these three categories, there are sub-categories, depending on the specific characteristic requirements sought. It is best to consider what it is that is required from a floor and then to select the best fit. In this blog we compare some scenarios between some polyurethane and epoxy resins.
• Food grade, hard wearing, slightly flexible (higher impact resistance) screed that is easy to clean, hygienic, food safe, functional, water and chemical resistant, can withstand impacts and scuffing, non-slip yet seamless. Here the HYREZ-RT polyurethane hybrid screed, possibly in a 6mm thickness will work best.

• Showroom seamless finish with high gloss, colour stability, water resistant, low maintenance, indoor luxurious finish with depth, hard wearing yet buffable, tough and stain resistant. In this instance, the POXY 1202 epoxy screed, in a 2mm thickness for depth and warmth in almost any colour you can think of, including blends of colours and glitters depending on the skill in application.

• Indoor or outdoor thin film coating that is colour stable, UV stable, easy to apply over large areas, is a lot more durable than paint, high chemical and stain resistance, hard wearing, adheres to almost any hard surface, available in a gloss, satin or matt finish, will withstand almost any condition from warehousing to pools. The most versatile UV SEALER polyurethane coating can be clear or matched to almost any colour, and can be used to coat floors, walls and even wood to give a hard, cleanable surface that in almost in a class of its own.

• Cleaning bay with possible battery acid spills, or concentrated acetic acid (vinegar), spices and syrup (sugar), dyes and disinfectants, yet hard wearing, cleanable, stain resistant, hygienic and easy to maintain. Colour stable and long lasting with semi-gloss, seamless finish. Best fit for this area is the POXY 1928 water-based epoxy coating with a thick film coating giving superb wear resistance, and extremely high chemical and stain resistance.
