STONE CARPET is Stone, so why seal it?

05 January 2026
STONE CARPET has been a luxurious addition to our range of flooring products, but it has come with some challenges. The stone itself has been painstakingly sourced locally from the washed shores of Cape Town, cleaned and graded to the desired size. The binder used to bind the stones to the floor and to themselves to give the effect of a STONE CARPET had to be strong and lasting. We settled on the only resin that we felt was strong enough to keep the stones in place over years of wear. This resin is an epoxy resin but being an epoxy, it is not UV stable and therefore tends to yellow in direct sunlight. For indoor use, this was not an issue. But for outdoor use, this presented yet another challenge. For outdoor use, we are working on a binder that is as strong and will not yellow, but until we are confident it will perform as well as the epoxy, we have developed a sure system to circumvent this..
When outdoors, apply a translucent STONE CARPET UV SEALER, matched in colour to the colour of the STONE CARPET installed. This sealer, being UV resistant, then protects the STONE CARPET binder from UV discolouration. The STONE CARPET UV SEALER is applied very carefully as not to present any streaking or give the STONE CARPET a painted look, which if applied to thick, or in too many coats, will create these undesirable outcomes. Rolling off excess STONE CARPET UV SEALER from the roller on a hard surface prior to rolling onto the STONE CARPET itself is the best way to guard against over application yet give the UV protection the binder requires. The STONE CARPET UV SEALER is very thin, intended to run between the individual stones and seal each one completely. It will not fill gaps between the stones. For this, you will need POREFILL.

POREFILL is a thick, whipped cream consistency that can be skimmed over the STONE CARPET if the gaps between the stones are preferably filled. Initially milky white in colour, POREFILL over two to three days dry time turns completely transparent, as long as it does not contact water which will retard the drying time. POREFILL is UV stable and will not discolour or yellow so can be used outdoors too, once the STONE CARPET UV SEALER has been applied. We have adapted the POREFILL to become stronger and more water resistant once dry, by adding an activator to the resin to give extra boost and longevity.

MARBLE CEMENT vs MICRO CEMENT

Microcement is an engineered composite material. It blends fine cement binders, mineral aggregates, polymer resins, and color pigments. Unlike heavy structural concrete slabs, this coating applies by hand with a trowel. It bonds directly to existing surfaces like tiles, drywall, or wood. The final system uses a protective polyurethane topcoat to resist everyday wear
