SKIM COAT 409
Cementitious Off-Shutter Effect Skim Coat
SKIM COAT 409 a cementitious product specially formulated for application by normal steel trowelling onto a mortar / concrete surface to seal pores and voids in the surface and give a smooth, off-shutter look. The product can also be used as a textured or stipple coat to the virgin surface.
TYPICAL APPLICATION
SKIM COAT 409 is dense and smooth and decorates masonry and concrete surfaces. Can be applied onto interior and exterior surfaces above or below grade concrete, mortar, block, brick, stone, pre-cast elements, cement plaster and other properly prepared structurally sound wall surfaces.

WATCH POINTS
• Do not re-constitute the mix after initial setting has occurred.
• Do not apply more than 2mm thickness per application.
• Do not apply in direct sunlight where surfaces are hot, or in strong winds.
• Colour of the screed surface on setting is not uniform in appearance.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Surface Preparation:
Surfaces are to be clean, sound and free of deleterious substances. Remove all laitance, oil, grease, mould oil or curing compound from concrete surfaces using wire brush, bush hammer, scabbler or other plant as appropriate. When repairing damaged concrete, ensure that all loose concrete has removed down to a firm base. Patch holes or honeycomb effects with MORTAR REPAIR or PLAST 1038.
Priming:
Surfaces should be dampened down with water but not wet. If desired, prime with diluted SCREED PRIMER 50% with water to provide a key to the SKIM COAT 409
Application:
Mix 8 – 10 Lts clean water with 20Kg of SKIM COAT 409 well in a bucket using a mechanical mixer. The less water, the stronger the skim coat. Pour approximately three quarters of the required mixing water into the empty clean container and begin slow mixing while adding the SKIM COAT 409 powder. Gradually add more SKIM COAT 409 powder and mixing liquid to bring the slurry to the consistence of a heavy, completely blended pancake batter. Stop mixing and allow the material to "fatten" for 5 minutes. Remix after above period, it may be necessary to add more water to obtain the correct consistency. Ensure all lumps have been broken up. Apply over the damp / primed areas with a steel trowel to the required thickness. Smooth and allow set hard. Another decorative coat can be applied after 12-18 hours, dampening the surfaces before application. Sand with 120 grit sandpaper to a smooth finish if necessary. For a harder finish, once the applied SKIM COAT 409 has gone into initial set (soft to touch but not sticky), lightly brush on SCREED PRIMER and skim the surface smooth. Allow to set hard and sand with 120 grit sandpaper to a smooth finish.

Equipment Care
All tools should be cleaned with water immediately after use. If delayed, equipment will need mechanical action to clean or be discarded.
