Description

TECHNICAL DATASHEET

SURFACE RETARDER
Detergent Based Surface Retarder

SURFACE RETARDER is an aqueous solution of polymers and detergents. It retards the set of cement in concrete when applied before complete hydration of the cement has occurred. Easy to apply, SURFACE RETARDER is sprayed directly onto fresh concrete surfaces to retard surface set and washed off the next day.

TYPICAL APPLICATION
For the retarding of surface concrete to allow surface concrete to be washed off after the screed has set (usually next day). In so doing, aggregates in the concrete are exposed giving a more aesthetic, non-slip finish.

ADVANTAGES
• Ease of application
• Excellent coverage
• Nontoxic
• Water washable
• Easy to clean
• Effective
• Economical

WATCH POINTS
• Apply evenly for consistent results
• Clean spills or splatters or pooling as soon as noticeable to prevent unintended retardation
• Diluting with water not recommended

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Surface Preparation:
Concrete is to be finished to the desired level and texture, vibrated, and levelled as necessary. No visible pooling of liquid on the surface.

Priming:
No priming is required.

Application:
Spray evenly onto surfaces to be treated until surfaces remain wet for at least 5 minutes. This is the saturation point of the substrate. Roll out with a dry mohair roller to spread evenly, being careful to pick up roller lines and ends where these build up and allow to settle. Avoid rolling or spreading once drying starts. Pick up any splashes or pooling before it reacts with the concrete. Allow 12-24 hours without exposure to surface moisture to prevent dilution of the SURFACE RETARDER. Apply only damp hessian sacking or similar cloth if prevention of shrinkage is required. Once concrete set has occurred, enough to walk on, rinse off the surface to remove the concrete with retarded set. High pressure rinse maybe used with caution, depending on the hardness of the concrete at the time of rinsing.
